About Conference

The most exciting phrase to hear in science, the one that heralds new discoveries, is not ‘Eureka!’ but ‘That's funny…’

Isaac Asimov

SIM School of Materials Engineering

The SIM School of Materials Engineering was first initiated in 1972 at the AGH University of Science and Technology in Krakow by Prof. Stanisław Gorczyca. Initially organised as a PhD seminar, it quickly gained wider interest, and the growing number of participants contributed to changing the nature of the meetings into a nationwide scientific conference. At its peak, over 150 young scientists participated in it, some of whom now hold positions as professors at all technical universities in Poland.

In 2023, the SIM Conference was held for the 50th time. The jubilee edition was not only an opportunity to summarise, but also to reflect on the past and plan for the future. Many years of tradition and regularity have made SIM a unique place where many friendships have been formed and extraordinary ideas and concepts have been developed. We are continuing these traditions by organising the SIM Conference in Krakow for the third time.

The main objective of the conference is to create a space for young scientists to present their research results, discuss, exchange experiences, establish cooperation and integrate. The topics cover areas related to the discipline of materials engineering and other fields.

The SIM conference is an excellent opportunity for PhD students and young scientists to present the initial results of their own research and build their scientific achievements.

This year's Materials Engineering School will be held, just like last year's edition, as part of the Metallurgist's Day celebrations at AGH University of Science and Technology.
